Congratulations!

Congratulations to Susan and Gerry Goldwyre for winning the Edinburgh section May the Best House Win on STV.  The programme has four homeowners visit each other’s homes, judging each one and giving a score out of ten.
The Goldwyre’s woodland Eco-house on the bank of the river Esk beat three other homes in order to be voted the Best House.
SIPs Industries provided the SIPs panels for the Goldwyre’s house back in 2009, and it’s wonderful to see the finished project being so appreciated.  The house has also been featured in Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine.

You can watch the programme online on STV iPlayer until 17th March 2011, the SIPs house is part 3.

Ecobuild 2011

The installation team arrived in London last night, and construction of the Ecobuild stand starts this morning.  In addition to the SIPs Industries stand, S1256, they’ll also be putting up the UK SIPs Association stand, which is N140.
The UK SIPs Association stand demonstrates how to achieve Passivhaus standard by utilising SIPS. If you would like to attend, there’s still time to register for a free ticket at www.ecobuild.co.uk; we hope to see you there.

Oak Frame

Cladding an Oak Frame with SIPs
We’ve just completed an Oak Frame for Roderick James Architects in Devon, and we’re delighted to have a note from the architect who designed the building:
“Just a quick thank you note to say I’ve had a telephone call from the Building Contractor regarding the new dwelling you’ve worked on at Newton Abbot.
[The main contractor] says the SIPs went extremely well, the panels all fitted as planned and your team on site did a very good job of all the details. He is very pleased as, of course, are we. Thank you for all your work on the project.”
We should have photographs of the completed kit soon, more to be found on our website www.sipsindustries.com.

Weather!

The severe weather we’ve been having this week has impacted on two of our sites, both of them in the West of Scotland.  A school near one of our sites has been closed for the day due to structural damage caused by the storm, and we’ve been unable to get out to the islands to complete a kit this week.  Fingers crossed the weather is better next week!
The BBC has stories both on the weather we’ve had over the past few days, and the forecast here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-12362278

Completed Projects

We mentioned in our last newsletter that one of our completed projects - ‘The Barn, Dalqueich’ -had won an award in the Kinross-shire Civic Trust Architectural Awards 2010.
The project received a Highly Commended for Architectural Design and Construction Work of Merit, and was particularly commended on “the straightforward way it expressed its method of construction, and the way the structure fitted with the spaces required for the accommodation and room functions.”  The judges also commented that “The selection of materials was well controlled and appropriate to the design.”
There wasn’t enough space in the Newsletter to show any pictures of the project, so here are some now:
